Flow Measurement

CSA Group was contracted to execute a project to monitor Panama City’s Residual Sewage Water with the goal of determining the characteristics of the sewage to be used for formulation of long term improvement plans. Monitoring was conducted during both the dry and the rainy season and samples were collected for seven consecutive days. Flow measurements were taken at 15 points identified in the sewer network. Measurements included the flow of residual waters; determination of the typical characteristics of each point of measurement, median values, daily maximum, maximum and minimum schedules, infiltration flows; determination of the organic loads, solids and nutrients; median loads, daily maximum, maximum and minimum hours; determination the flow per person of each measurement area, and identification of the contributions of contaminant loads by inhabitants. The measurement data was used to propose and justify the basis of design for future improvements to the sewage treatment plant.
