Honeywell is negotiating with the Puerto Rico Aqueducts and Sewer Authority (PRASA) to establish an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) for Buildings Guaranteed Energy Savings for the Puerto Nuevo Wastewater Treatment Plant. This is part of the Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) improvements Honeywell is performing on the existing incinerator to recover heat, generate steam and through a steam turbine, generate electric power.

The heat recovered from the incinerator will pass through a Waste Heat Boiler (WHB) producing high pressure superheated steam. This steam is then run through a piping system to a steam turbine generator, where 1.35 megawatts (MW) of electric power will be produced. The steam turbine generator discharges into the condenser where the steam is condensed and pumped into the deaerator. The condenser will be cooled by two open loop water cooling towers located adjacent to the condenser. From the deaerator, the hot water will be pumped thru the feed water pumps back into the WHB.

CSA has been contracted by Honeywell to collect data and conduct site visits to evaluate the existing Sludge Treatment Building to verify structural capacity. This will be accomplished by a sampling and analysis plan for the building construction materials. The will evaluate piles, pile caps and prepare the design for any structural reinforcement required to complete the project. CSA will prepare all necessary drawings and specifications, prepare permit documentation for a categorical exclusions, construction and use permit and provide support services during bidding and construction.
