The Puerto Rico Public Housing Administration (PRPHA) Housing Modernization Program was established to improve the physical condition of existing public housing projects.

The Santiago Iglesias Housing Project was built 1996. CSA assessed the improvement needs and devised a phased program for the construction that included resident relocation while the construction work was being carried out.

Our project approach was to phase construction in two sections; the first one involved 160 dwelling units and associated site work. The second phase included the remaining 120 dwelling units and ancillary Administration Building, Community Center and sports field. CSA also designed temporary housing modules that were built next to the project site for residents to use while the modernization work took place.

CSA services included building evaluation, design of rehabilitation and remodeling work for 280 housing units, administration building and community center. Other elements of the project included improvements to parking areas, garbage stations, grading and utilities systems, improved handicap accessibility for compliance with HUD section 504, larger kitchens, bathrooms and laundry facilities.
