The need for air travel to serve the tourism industry is critical and places high demands on the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. The cruise ship segment, the Puerto Rico Convention Center development and the construction of a new sports arena, generate increasing demands for facilities to handle the distinct groups associated with these segments. This group travel generates the need for specific facilities designed to handle the specialized needs of the group/cruise traveler who may arrive via scheduled or charter air carrier. The PR Port Authority commissioned the design and construction of a facility adjacent to the existing south ramp which will provide:

  • Contact gates for aircraft parked at the south ramp
  • Provide for specialized facilities for handling group travelers
  • Allow use of the contact gates for scheduled carriers by providing a direct connection via Terminal “B” to the rest of the LMM terminals.

CSA is part of a group of consultant firms for the Consultores para el Aeropuerto de San Juan Joint Venture, which includes Manuel Goicoechea & Associates Architects and Birk Hillman Consultants, Inc. CSA’s scope of work included the mechanical, civil and site engineering and design for the new terminal building.
